The New York Jets announced Monday the signing of unrestricted free agent guard/tackle Ethan Brooks Brooks, 6-6, 330 pounds, is a seven-year NFL veteran who has spent time with Atlanta, St. Louis, Arizona and most recently Baltimore. Brooks has played in 75 career games, making 26 starts throughout his career. The product of Williams College has seen the majority of his playing time the past three seasons as a member of the Ravens, playing in 44 games and making 23 starts at a variety of positions along the offensive line.
Brooks was a seventh-round draft selection of the Falcons in 1996 before moving on to play for the St. Louis Rams from 1997-1999. He spent time with the Arizona Cardinals during the 2000 season and then joined the Ravens (2002-2004).
Whittemore, a 6-2, 205-pound first-year player from the University of Kansas, broke into the National Football League last year as an undrafted free agent with the Atlanta Falcons, signing on May 18, 2004 and was waived on July 1, 2004. Whittemore recently completed his first season of professional football on the roster of the Arena Football League’s Nashville Kats.
The native of Brentwood, TN played two seasons for KU after transferring from Ft. Scott Community College and finished sixth all-time on the Jayhawks’ career passing yardage list with 4,051 yards, sixth in career pass completions (568), third in career touchdown passes (29), second in touchdown runs by a quarterback (21) and fourth in career total offensive yards (5,134).
