Calgary, AB –Calgary Flames General Manager and Head Coach Darryl Sutter announced the acquisition of a third round choice in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for defenceman Toni Lydman.

Lydman was the Flames fourth pick, 89th overall, in the 1996 Entry Draft.

In the 2003-04 season, Lydman played in 67 games, recording four goals and 15 assists.

The 6'1", 200 lb., Lydman played four seasons for the Flames before coming to North America from Finland.

"We were going to make a trade at some point to give us flexibility to address other areas," said Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter.

"We had three or four teams that we were working with. This is the one where we eventually got what we wanted."
